the feeling of heat had left it. When at length he could bear this waiting no longer, he himself jumped in over a fence, he commences searching hither and thither, and his eyes blazing through madness for finding, if possible. Luck was his in a little while. He got a pretty thick brobh and shoved it quickly into the tube of the pipe. He then tried to pull it back, but the brobh remained as it was, and would not move from its place. He tried again, but it was the very same as before. In the end of the pulling, the trahneen meanly broke on him inside in the tube of the pipe. He jumped out over the fence blazing mad; he could not keep his passion in check, and he threw the diuid as far as he could cast it into the great sea. There was not a tittle out of anybody for fear of a quarrel, for they all knew Donal full well, and what manner of man he was, when he would happen to be ill at ease within himself.

Ní túisge do ḃí sin as a ḃeul ná’r sgread an gárlaċ amaċ, agus is iongantaċ nár ċuaiḋ an ḃean ḃoċt i luige. Ṫosnuiġ sí féin ag sgreadaiġil ann-sain, agus deirim-se leat-sa go raiḃ ceól ar feaḋ tamaill idir í féin agus an gárlaċ.

“A Ḋoṁnaill,” aduḃairt sí, “cad atá ann-sain agat? O ḃó ḃó! cad ḋeanfaiḋ mé i n-aon ċor leat? Is dóċa go ḃfuil liopraċán nó ceann de na daoiniḃ maiṫe annsain agat. Tóg amaċ é agus ná bain leis níos mó. Tóg amaċ é agus leig uait é, nó ní ḃeiḋ aon raṫ ort go bráṫ. Tá mo ċroiḋe briste agat, mar ní’l splanc ċéille i d’ ċeann.”

“Éist liom, a ṁáṫair,” ar Doṁnall, “tá leanaḃ ann-so agam, agus is dóiġ liom go ḃfuil fuaċt agus ocras ar an gcréatúirín boċt. Éiriġ suas anois agus taḃair rud le n-iṫe ḋo, agus ná bí am’ ḃoḋraḋ i dtaoiḃ na ndaoine maiṫe.”

“Leanaḃ arú!” ḃfuil tú ar meisge nó imṫiġṫe as do ċéill? A Ḋia na ngrás! cad atá air anoċt? Leanaḃ an n-eaḋ! “dul i n-aois dul i n-olcas” mar a deir na seanḟocail. Ar ól tú aon rud anoċt a Ḋoṁnaill?”

“Deaṁan braon, ṁaiseaḋ, aċt ólfaiḋ mé cnagaire anois láiṫreaċ, mar teastuiġeann sé uaim, tar éis na hoiḋċe so go háiriṫe. Aċt corraiġ leat anois, agus tóg an leanaḃ uaiṁ.”

Aċt níor ċreid sí gurḃ é an leanaḃ do ḃí aige, agus do ċaiṫ sé leaṫ-uair ag bladar agus ag plámás léiṫe, sul do ċorraiġ sí as an leabain, do ḃí an eagla ċoṁ mór sin uirre roiṁ na daoiniḃ maiṫe. Aċt fá ḋeireaḋ ṡiar ṫall do ṫáinig sí anuas, agus ’nuair d’féaċ sé ar an leanḃ, d’iompuiġ sí ar Ḋoṁnall. “A ḃiṫeaṁnaiġ bradaċ! cia an ċiall ar ṫug tú an leanaḃ so ó n-a ṁáṫair anoċt? Is mór an náire ḋuit é. Ní’l aon rud taḃairt trioblóide ḋuit-se aċt ag cur na gcoṁarsan trí n-a ċéile; aċt tiucfaiḋ sé taoḃ ṡiar ḋíot am icínt, adeirim leat.”

Duḃairt Doṁnall léiṫe ann-sain nár ṫug sé an leanaḃ ó n-a ṁáṫair, agus d’innis sé an sgeul di ó ṫús go deireaḋ, agus sul a raiḃ sé críoċnuiġṫe, do ḃí sí ag taḃairt ḃuiḋeaċais do Ḋia go raiḃ Doṁnall amuiġ an oiḋċe sin; aċt ’san am céadna, ní raiḃ sí ro-ṡásta i n-a haigneaḋ i dtaoiḃ na mban síḋe, agus ċaiṫeaḋ sí súil amaċ ar an ḃfuinneoig anois agus aríst, ag feuċaint raiḃ siad ag teaċt fá ḋéin an leanaiḃ aríst.

Do ṫug an ḃean aosda deoċ do’n leanaḃ, agus do ċuaiḋ sé a ċodlaḋ aríst. D’ól Doṁnall an cnagaire do leag se amaċ ḋo féin, agus do ṡaoil sé ann-sain go raġaḋ
