editThe numbering system introduced by the editors of Die Keilalphabetischen Texte aus Ugarit (KTU) in 1976 has introduced a widely accepted ordering scheme for the alphabetic cuneiform texts found at Ras Shamra.
The 1995 edition (CAT) expanded the classification to 10 categories.
Each text is assigned a number with the following form: KTU N.nn.
The first number (N) refers to the classificatory group to which the text belongs, the second number (nn) is the individual text number.
Note that unlike RS numbers, where a tablet may consist of several fragments and have several RS numbers, KTU numbers refer to texts and therefore each text has one unique number.
* KTU 1: Literary and Religious Texts * KTU 2: Letters * KTU 3: Legal Texts * KTU 4: Economic Texts * KTU 5: Scribal Exercises * KTU 6: Inscriptions on Seals, Labels, Ivories, etc. * KTU 7: Unclassified Texts * KTU 8: Illegible Tablets and Uninscribed Fragments * KTU 9: Unpublished Texts * KTU 10: Appendix A: A Ugaritic Text in Syllabic Script
