stats for el, he, zh and te

edit

Hi Phe, there are four projects with zero proofread pages on http://toolserver.org/~phe/statistics.php. I've found that s:el:Κατηγορία:Έχει γίνει proofreading, s:he:קטגוריה:בוצעה הגהה, and s:zh:Category:已校对 are the relevant categories for 'proofread' status pages on those projects. Only minutes ago I created the Hebrew category, so that might fix the stats. The Greek category contains English in the name, so that may be a problem. The Chinese category was created a long time ago. so I'm not sure how to fix that. The Telugu language proofreading system is not used correctly. I'll start trying to find and fix these problems, and will appreciate any advice and assistance you can provide. John Vandenberg 06:00, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Here the data for el:

And, if MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage doesn't exist, the name of the Disambiguate template.

If a cat is renamed through the relevant sys msg [1], I need to know the old/new cat to touch each page in the old cat with a bot (a purge is not sufficient).

Beside that, I'm looking at the tool code to see if I can automatically get the needed category name rather to hardcode them in the script. — Phe 14:32, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

That's currently not possible. — Phe 16:24, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Match and split at et.wikisoruce

edit

Hei, thanks for updating the script! But clicking the match link here still gives "no prefix" message and another test version with page links is missing a split link. Could you please look into it. 88.196.241.249 19:30, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think all trouble are fixed now, at least I was able to test match on my user page and I get the split button after the match succeed. Try it but first force a reload of your javascript. If there is any trouble ping me on my wikisource fr:talk page. Can you delete et:Kasutaja:Phe/commons.js ? (name error) — Phe 21:54, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Proofread in ml wikisource

edit

Hi phe,

while Browsing a page scan in the Page namespace , some users prefer the text in the right side(now it shows in the left side). is it possible to switch it by adding some js to their common.js?

-Hrishikesh.kb (talk) 06:48, 13 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the very late answer, I asked Tpt about that, and he says it'll possible when GSoc project will be deployed. — Phe 18:55, 17 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi At http://toolserver.org/~phe/statistics.php , please add bengali wikisource too..Jayantanth (talk) 11:07, 16 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Added, stats will be updated tomorrow. Can you check this category name are correct ? (104 is the namespace number of Page:)
    'bn': (
        104,
        "পরফরিড", /* proofread (yellow) */
        "বৈধকরণ", /* validated (green) */
        "লেখাবিহীন", /* without text (grey) */
        "সমসযাসঙকল", /* problematic (blue) */
        ),

Thank you, Phe.. Below the right category name in Bengali

    'bn': (
        104,
        "প্রুফরিড", /* proofread (yellow) */
        "বৈধকরণ", /* validated (green) */
        "লেখাবিহীন", /* without text (grey) */
        "সমস্যাসংকুল", /* problematic (blue) */
        ),
hmmm look like the char রু is corrupted when I cut and copy it on the TS, each time I do it, I get it mangled... I need an other way to implement it. — Phe 18:02, 17 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Done, but I needed to encode the string in a weird way, we'll see tomorrow if the stats for bn are ok. — Phe 18:53, 17 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

en:Template:ALL TEXTS

edit

en:Template:ALL TEXTS update by bot, anyhow same bot can we use for other wikisourece like ours (bn.wikisource.org) statictis 79,376 is not actual number of text in wikisource in all wiki,. Please help.Jayantanth (talk) 12:34, 19 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'm unsure to understand, I added bn.ws so you'll ALL_TEXTS and a few other template, check them tomorrow. — Phe 16:02, 19 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
I mean to say that present en.ws in main shown that (294,814 texts), which is coming from en:Template:ALL TEXTS. But present NUMBEROFARTICLES in en.ws is 1,006,275. In our bn.ws in main page it comes from or present the stats from {{NUMBEROFARTICLES}} magic word, says NUMBEROFARTICLES is 5961 which is including all subpages, as per my understanding. So we (bn.ws) present wrong information to readers. Simply How do we use same [:en:Template:ALL TEXTS]] for bn.ws? And just want to know you calculate in said template no of text is (294,814 texts)? Jayantanth (talk) 06:27, 20 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
The bot created the template on bn and it'll update them each days, see [2]. ALL_TEXTS is the total number of page in namespace 0 minus the number of disamb pages and redirect. PR_TEXTS is the number of page like ALL_TEXTS but which transclude at least one page from the Page: namespace (meaning there is PR_TEXTS with a scan), PR_PERCENT is the ratio of ALL_TEXTS and PR_TEXTS, ALL_PAGES is the total number of page in namespace Page:, I don't remember if this include page marked as empty. PAGES_NOT_PROOFREAD is the number of page in namespace Page: which are in state quality1 (created page and red colored in Index:). — Phe 15:59, 20 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thats great. thank you for help us.Jayantanth (talk) 14:08, 21 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Tracking script usage

edit

Hi!

Did you have any problems with this? Maybe it was bugzilla:68757? Helder 11:41, 9 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps I was mistaken by this bug but afaics to get the global usage working you need a link in the .js but you also need a link into each script importing this .js, it's too intrusive imho and in this case I'll wait for a proper mechanism for global script usage. — Phe 12:30, 9 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
That is correct. The link in other scripts is necessary for this hack to work.
Tracking scripts was mentioned on bugzilla:32858 but I didn't find a bug requesting specifically this feature. There is also bugzilla:19288. Helder 12:41, 9 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I agree with #32858, I remember there was some talk about global Gadget, likely hosted on common or perhaps in their own wiki with a tracking similar to global usage for File: on a shared repo. A lot of work as it needs some magic to import in gadget preference in a local wiki only a selected subset of all available global gadget and an automatic tracking for these specials gadgets. It'll solve also all the trouble we get because there is no efficient way to handle dependencies for external scripts nor efficient loading of external script. — Phe 13:05, 9 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Just in case you haven't seen this yet, take a look on mw:Gadgets 2.0 and meta:Global-Wiki. Helder 13:41, 9 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Unused code

edit

Hi!

Just to be sure: did you check the usage of pr_fix_page_headers in other Wikisources? Helder 03:03, 11 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

I tried on en, fr and de, and I remember all of the id has been changed at least a few month ago, no one complained. Actually the code contain a #prp-page-edit-header which is probably the new id instead of #pageheader. In old time the header/footer was generated in javascript on client side, nowadays they are generated on server side. — Phe 03:52, 11 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi!
I asked user Legoktm to run mw-grep on WMF wikis to get a list of pages in MediaWiki and User namespaces, where the variables declared on MediaWiki:Base.js are used. Here are the results:
This may help us in the maintenance of the script. Helder 03:20, 14 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I get a look at each use, all are fork of some script. Probably to workaround script load order. As they look like to work, the best is probably to wait for your RL2 and a shared gadget repo before asking people to use the vanilla version. — Phe 10:58, 14 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
It is enough to use a callback (or even mw.hook) to ensure the proper loading order of the scripts which depend on base.js. We don't need to have forks just because of this. Helder 14:44, 14 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

MediaWiki:PageNumbers.js

Hi, I see that you've helped to maintain MediaWiki:PageNumbers.js recently. Would you mind taking a look at the bug fix I proposed (more details)? Thank you. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 06:58, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, but please see my reply. Sorry for the inconvenience. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 09:03, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I saw it, but this need a change to this template in each wikisource I prefer to handle it in a more complicate way but compatible with the existing templates. If the template is not changed we will get data trough a.id and need the same code to decode it correctly. Am I missing something ? — Phe 14:10, 13 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Help with harassment by cs.wikisource admins

edit

Hi, I see you are admin of this wiki. On the local Village pump there's written: "This is the central location for discussing issues with Wikisource, and the place to ask for help." So I posted a plea for help there but noone replied. Would you please have a look? I'm being harassed by cs.wikisource admins, I was banned indef but I never did anything wrong on the wiki at all. Thanks in advance. --Auvajs (talk) 17:40, 20 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Collaborating on OCR tool

edit

Hi @Phe: the Community Tech team is looking into making OCR service available on Indic/other languages Wikisource. I'm interested in talking to you about how Phetools interacts with Tesseract and if there's a possibility to use Google OCR instead of Tesseract in the tool or we'd have to look into making a different tool for fulfilling that need. Thanks! -- NiharikaKohli (talk) 23:05, 29 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

New languages for phetools

edit

@Phe: Given that tawikisource and zhwikisource have seen lots of activity recently (and especially since the former of these is now the 4th largest in terms of the size of the Page: namespace), their rates of growth, proofreading, validation, and transclusion ought to be reflected in the graphs produced for those statistics. Is it at all possible to add those two language Wikisources to the graphs generated by the tool? Mahir256 (talk) 21:00, 15 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Edit to InterWikiTransclusion.js

edit

Hello,

I'd need to change a portion of Mediawiki:InterWikiTransclusion.js, related to bug T188202 in Phabricator. Shortly, Template:Iwpages doesn't allow inclusion of only one section spanning multiple pages. In the bugreport I attached a patch, which should preserve backwards-compatibility; a second change is needed in the template itself to allow room for one more optional parameter.

Thank you for considering.

--dapal(write me @) 09:38, 25 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Applied your patch — Phe 12:01, 25 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Phe: thank you! But you missed the last bit of the patch, the one changing the call to the API.. :) --dapal(write me @) 12:51, 25 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
oops, done. — Phe 16:50, 25 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Dapal: I also amended a bit the patch, seems better this way: https://wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:InterWikiTransclusion.js&diff=553510&oldid=553508 , ok with that change? — Phe 16:52, 25 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Phe: definitely, thank you! --dapal(write me @) 19:29, 25 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users

edit

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)
