Can someone rename the account User:SunStar Net for me, thanks?? It's not my account, and I don't want it showing up in Google searches for the name.--82.42.237.84 23:26, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi. For renaming of the user accounts you have to contact the bureaucrat of the domain i.e. User:ThomasV. Go on, -jkb- 23:35, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
From time to time he is here. The problem is, that only a bureaucrat can rename your account, not an admin. Sorry, try it. -jkb- 16:15, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
please sign your message if you want to request this. ThomasV 21:49, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Need an expert's opinion edit

Hi, jkb. Sorry to bother you, but I don't know anyone else here. I asked a question in the Scriptorium, but no one answered, so I am asking you.

When I have an Afrikaans interface and I click on "Tuisblad" ("Main page") to go back to the main page, it goes all the way back to Main_Page and not to the Afrikaans main page, which used to be at Main Page:Afrikaans. I thought moving it to Tuisblad would fix the problem, but it did not. I think (but am not sure), that MediaWiki:Mainpage-url/af needs to contain the text Tuisblad as well. I know very little about these things, so if you have an idea how it might be fixed, please let me know. Ich spreche auch ein bischen Deutsch, vielleicht ist es einfacher für dich? Anrie 22:55, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I am afraid there is no solution for it. The name of the Main Page and the URL address of it are defined in the MediaWiki, and it is fixed for the "main" Main Page of the whole domain. It is quite inpossible to fix more URL's there on an easy way. And there is no direct connection with your Africaans interface - there you see only the translation for Main Page, but the URL comes from MediaWiki and directs to the main one. This can change only after you have an own domain for your language. (The same problem exists e.g. in the incubator, where more languages has their text domains). BTW, English is OK for me as well. Sorry, -jkb- 12:58, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
For localized links, you need the extension "Polyglot" which is not installed here, AFAIK. Yann 13:58, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Too bad, but it's not the end of the world or anything. Thanks for the answer. Anrie 14:36, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you edit

Thank you. Saved. Can I upload it on Commons? It has been created by me. --Ilario 15:29, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Normally, when you create something like this by your own so you have the right to choose the licence, e.g. PD-self or GFDL-self od CC-by....., but here I would talk with a Commons admin as it has some similarity to the official logo of wikimedia, and these logos have a unfree copyright. Anyway, thx for the message, I will delete it here agin, and good luck. -jkb- 16:01, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Question about exporting pages to other wikisource edit

The Afrikaans Wikisource is nearing 100 pages. I do not mind staying part of wikisource.org, but am worried that, one day (far in the future) when the Af-Wikisource gets its own domain, it will be difficult to move say 1000 pages. Is there a certain limit that, when reached, I should request a seperate subdomain for Af, or can I add as much here as I want, knowing it won't cause problems in the future? (I'd prefer to stay here, but don't want to cause problems for some person who'll have to export these pages there one day.) Anrie 12:34, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Anrie. Well, the criterium for creating an wown domain is not only the number of pages you have: it is also the average activity in the language, number of active users, i.e. the possibility that such a domain will not stop one day because the onyl one contributor stopped to work here. Anyway, the number of pages at the time of the creation of a domain is no fundamental problem, there are some languages here which have more. And secondly, I guess, a big part of the work can be done robotically (like deleting the pages here etc.). And thirdly, when the domain is created and you or somebody else has got a sysop or a bureaucrat, so you can move the pages by your own. So don't worry. Best wishes in your work, regards, -jkb- 12:44, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bot edit

Hi jkb, I read your message about the interwiki bot. I can help with it, but I need some help. I have not experience and I run it on es.wikisource only. A question: Have you run pagefromfile.py? I can't, it's impossible for me. Kisses. --LadyInGrey 23:44, 6 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, Silvina, I will have a small problem with your question. Although I will install a bot on the cs.source, at the moment we have no one (i.e. no one owned by somebody from that subdomain). So, your question about something like pagefromfile.py is something I do not understand D)... Maybe some weeks later. My idea was simple: when you add some interwikis in es.source so I think you could make the same in other subdomains as well, just because you know the special diferences between WP and WS. But OK, we shall see. Thanks for the answer, regards to Buenos A., -jkb- 15:16, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
ok, I beleived that you had been installed the bot. Don't worry. I am working with the bot in differents categories on es.source, so if you need something, please tell me. --LadyBots 16:20, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

インターナショナル edit

Assuming you acting in good faith, I would like to tell that the Japanese page that you deleted has very different content from s:ja:インターナショナル. I undeleted it here because the author of the 1922 version died in 1978 and Japanese Wikisource would not want it per its deletion discussion. I will ask someone to translate Template:PD-US-1923-abroad/JA into Japanese while I have made Template:PD-US-1923-abroad/ZH due to considerable oppositions on Chinese Wikisource against pre-1923 works still copyrighted in Greater China.--Jusjih 02:15, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for correcting me. I have looked into the logs and there was a deletion request from Aleator so that I have assumed it is a normal deletion because of duplicity. Sorry for that. -jkb- 07:03, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
well, it could be a problem in the future - might be we shlould either use the 1923 template by putting it quite on the top or to mark such pages in another way; when the template is on the bottom so the danger is there indeed. -jkb- 21:04, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
You need not feel sorry as I already assumed you acting in good faith. How about putting the template on the top and bottom, especially for long pages? Or is it possible to make collapsible pages so when readers get in, they see the main texts enclosed with specific notes like PD in the USA but copyright-restricted elsewhere? I say collapsible page with the opening possible as some Wikipedia templates use this feature.--Jusjih 01:21, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, we need something like that. But, I guess, collapsible templates have some disadvantages (people who have no java script cannot use it I think). But This afternoon or evening I will make here a proposal for a template that shows a text in two parts (top + bottom), I must just find it somewhere. So, let me see... -jkb- 09:41, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
so I have changed the template, see Template:PD-US-1923-abroad/CS, see the usage in Úplná učebnice mezinárodní řeči dra. Esperanta, where there is a new icon i on the top right - click on it. I have also changed the width (now full) and I added a parametre for the year when the text will be PD in the concernig country. If you like it I can change all other templates as well. -jkb- 17:45, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I have tried clicking on the new icon and it would lead to the copyright license. Please change all other template as well.--Jusjih 01:03, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

done, but have a look on the sentences that mus be translated (now as a comment), otherwise ask, regards -jkb- 12:59, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the enhanced function. I have translated the Chinese one. I have heard of "Greater China" on Wikipedia, so I use it instead of "Great China", which is incidentally what the French term "Grande Chine" literally means.--Jusjih 01:15, 12 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pak už to zvládnu sám.

Comment summary edit

Hello, Thanks for these messages. What would be really useful is to have the beginning of the text added in the comment summary instead of a standard message. I don't understand why it's not like that here, but any other wikis of Wikimedia. Yann 18:46, 3 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well thanks, it is nice somebody like it... some hours or days after I have announced my 75-%-wikibreak at the cs.source the same message was deleted by my co-bureaucrat as "infantility" ([1], [2]). But OK: the message MediaWiki:Autosumm-replace adds in the summary the beginning of the text replaced (see e.g. [3]). the other message MediaWiki:Autosumm-blank adds nothing, naturally. -jkb- 19:24, 3 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Internacionála edit

31 October 2008 -jkb- (Talk | contribs | block) deleted "Internacionála (Macek/Skalák, 1903)" ‎ (porušení autorského práva)

I have undeleted the edits of Internacionála right here and tagged it {{PD-US-1923-abroad/CS}}while dated in 1903. As I cannot read Czech, what does "Internacionála (překlad), doslovný překlad všech šesti slok podle originálu" at s:cs:Internacionála mean?--Jusjih 03:24, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I made some deletions in Oct/Nov 2008 because of copyright violations (it has been qualified as disturbing of the subdomain), here also both texts of Internacionála. Thanks for undeleting here and tagging with the 1923 tag. I will control the text etc. The second one "Internacionála (překlad)" means "International (translation), a word-for-word translation of all six verses" and it was not clear who is the translator and what is the source (came from an IP) - so it has no meaning for us here. The next problem is that I have no a cirrilic keybord so I may use only standard Windows functions: mark, paste, and so on... Well, yes. Every page. We are a project for more languages, and even if the pages are categorized by a category like Literature etc., it is sometimes important to know which language it belongs to (i.e. also who is responsible for it). More over, if you create a new subdomain it will be hard to move all pages to there when they are not categorized by language. A category tree alone does not help very much. -jkb- 14:21, 16 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well, this is a multilingual Wikisource. As Esperanto and some other languages do not have an own subdomain the text are hosted here, see Main Page#wikisource.org. To avoid a chaos it is necessary to tag all pages in the main name space with language categories, in this case with Category:Esperanto. Regards, -jkb- 08:41, 24 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

hello JKB Who wants to know alien minds <br\> When a brain is working it generates an impulses (microelectrical), when somebody is thinking or operates incoming iformation (sees something or hears something) a computer remembers that impuls from the brain (from where it goes and what kind of). the next time it must be similar. <br\> probably every person has own type of impulses. but if the computer could read the impulses then it could send the same to a person. it means it could play on the brain. <br\> 2004 year<br\> Just theory. Template:InterLingvLigoj edit

Hi! Can you update Template:InterLingvLigoj, like you did with Template:Languages? I would do it myself, but it's protected... :( Many thanks, ciao! Candalua 21:40, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

You mean to add als to it? I am not quite sure if the Template:InterLingvLigoj is still up to date. Probably Template:Languages should be used instead of it? Tell me if you need it and then I can change it. Regards -jkb- 10:48, 15 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, well, I don't know why there are 2 similar templates... :) The InterLingvLigoj seems to be used by all the main pages, while the Languages only by the "main" Main Page. The only difference is that in Languages there is a <div style="width: 70%"> that can cause ugly results if we use this template on the main pages. I suggest moving that div out of the template, and put it directly on Template:Wikisource languages. Then Template:InterLingvLigoj can become a redirect to Template:Languages. Ciao, Candalua 14:20, 15 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes. Something like that. Tomorrow I will have a look at it. Regards, -jkb- 20:54, 15 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
I moved Template:InterLingvLigoj to Template:AllLanguages, and it is transcluded in Template:Languages, so that we have one template only which is to be actualised. -jkb- 16:50, 16 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Page naming format for author's poem pages edit

I am a newbie to wikisource. Have started adding poems of urdu poets to wikisource. Is there any recommended format for naming the poem pages. In somecases I have seen the page just to have the name "poem first line" (eg william wordsworth's poem pages) and in other cases "poem first line/poet name" (urdu: galib's poems). Is one format better than the other? Thanks User:IrfanAli04 IrfanAli04 17:40, 28 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, and be welcome here, naturally. Well, concerning the pages especially in Urdu: I think the best you casn do is to contact User:Yann who has a great experience with Hindi, Sanskrit etc. Just ask him. Regards and Happy New Year for you as well, -jkb- 17:57, 28 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks J. I will get in touch with Yann. Happy new year to you too. Regards IrfanAli04 20:26, 28 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
