Hello,
Regarding the page you added, there is some suspicion that the text is copyrighted, since it was recently modified. Could you please provide more information? Thanks, Yann 18:20, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

- No the Sanskrit cannot be copyrighted whether in Devanagari or roman transcription with diacritics or otherwise, it would never stand in any court. I just included the critical edition notes for probity. If a person or organization were to copyright an edition of any traditional cultural artifact (bar a rendering or gloss in another language which takes considerable effort and endeavour) it wouldn't be worth the (c) symbol and it could be contested in court as unlawful, acculturating and misappropriating a traditional cultural artifact. The same precedent as folkmusic would come into effect, which cannot be copyrighted either the musical themes or motifs as well cannot be sealed by (c). If such musical themes and motif are copyrighted, upon contest it would be found indefensible. A critical edition needs to be accredited but stating that it then becomes the domain of (c) legislation is ludicrous. Let the publishers take it to court. There hasn't been a test case that I could source documented on the Internet.

- I am afraid it is not that easy. Old documents can revail new copyright in many cases, for example when they are translated, transcribed, when this transcription has been profoundly improved (this could mean diacritics as well) etc. When you write this document has been emended twice (1978 and 1985) so we have to have some suspictions on the PD status. Therefore it is quite necessary to give the source to all documents here. This is the present copyright situation. Thanks for further informations from you. A note to Scriptorium: Hello there are a number of primary sources of the Puranas available for harvest
editI am only on a little netbook and moving large files around is problematic. I would very much appreciate if someone could populate our Wikisource Purana page with the Puranas found HERE. There are many other important files as well but it would be appreciated if the Puranas could be focused upon sooner rather than later.
Blessings

just a remark
editHi B9 hummingbird hovering. Could I ask you to pay more attention to your edits? In last some three hours you edited some 60 to 70 times, and it is sometimes difficult to follow the recent changes. Try please to use the button "show preview", just like we do on Wikipedias. By the way, the text you are working on is not dedicated for the Wikisource, isn't it? Regards and good nigt, -jkb- 22:18, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
- Hello,
- Wikisource.org is not supposed to host text in English, and your user page is not supposed to be used to publish original works.
