Hi, 'twas me indeed using that IP. Your remarks raise a number of interesting questions about anonymous reattribution to users. I chose pointedly to use the manual rename method, since a) there is afaik no extra protection in logging in to effect the change, you can change the prepipe page sig at any point manually and b) I can't be bothered to sign in 20 or 30 times when flicking between one wiki and another on a public machine despite having the same username across all of them.

The audit is fairly straightforward from my point of view; if it isn't in my contributions and I won't accept that it is my contribution, then the balance of probabilities suggests that it isn't my contribution; however if it is an anon contribution which I am happy to acknowledge then I see no particular problem with this. I have had no particular problems with this over time, and afaik there is no explicit policy on this issue. Moreover, I think that making policy on this issue exposes us to far more risk of e.g. sock-puppetry etc, rather than following a common sense approach.

The issues are far more likely to arise when the author of something will not accept his ownership of an edit, or uses the ip as a sock-puppet and does not reattribute. A good example of a dishonest user in this respect is the user Lir and his/her merry band of sock-puppets. With the best will in the world the only way you can deal with them is to pick them up on stylistics and ban their asses (to coin a phrase). Sjc 05:09, 22 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Book of Mormon

edit

Thanks for your hard work in adding the Book of Mormon text. As has been discussed lately at the Book of Mormon, certain portions of the Book of Mormon are unavailable for inclusion here due to copyright restrictions. We can't have the footnotes, chapter headings, introduction, etc. It would also be very valuable if we could get the 1830 text of the Book of Mormon. I brought it over from Project Gutenberg, and it is here in one of the historic versions of the Book of Mormon. Maybe we can do something with it eventually. Anyway, good luck on your mission.
