Deletions from transwiki log

edit

I just got through retroactively logging a bunch of transwiki operations from Wikiquote to here that were missing from the log, thinking they hadn't been logged. But now I find that I owe Kalki an apology for the implicit impuning of his thoroughness, because they had been deleted from the log! While one may delete the original articles from the original project under certain circumstances, per meta:Transwiki policy, I am aware of no policy that permits the removal of the log entries. w:en:Wikipedia:Transwiki log specifically claims its entries represent all transwikis through en:WP, and I can find no policy here other than a link to meta. Why was this mass log deletion done? ~ Jeff Q 21:52, 29 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Eclecticology has ben unreachable for quite some time, and I doubt he will answer your question. As for the reason of the deletion, I do not know it. The history of the page just says that the text was "adapted", and the so-called "adaptation" consisted in adding a link to the author page. I guess Ec used to consider the transwiki log as a temporary buffer for texts needing formatting. ThomasV 09:27, 30 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
I've been mostly spending my time on Wiktionary since the time of dividing the Wikisources. The Transwiki process was always intended to facilitate the transfer of articles from one project to another. The receiving project always had the option of keeping or deleting the transwikied article in a name of its choosing; there was never any need to keep the transwiki page.
