Hindustanilanguage
Hello Hindustanilanguage, welcome to the multilingual Wikisource! Thanks for your interest in the project; we hope you'll enjoy the community and your work here.
This wiki is the original Wikisource wiki, originally hosting works in many languages. The larger collections have been spawned into separate projects, leaving this wiki to serve as a central collaboration point, and as an environment where works without a language subdomain can be started. Refer to our languages list to see which languages still reside on this wiki. You can find a list of the separate language projects on the main page or here and you may want to look at the our coordination page for limitations on placing certain works on the separate language projects.
Most questions and discussions about the community are in the Scriptorium.
The Community Portal lists tasks you can help with if you wish. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page!

editHi, I am very surprised that a major language like Hindi doesn't yet have a Wikisource. The same is true of course for other large Indian languages.
I haven't been involved in setting up a new language for quite a few years, though I was very involved in the past. Things may have changed. But as far as I know, if the language is eligible (which it of course is) and there is an active project, then a new wiki will be created.
For other projects (besides Wikisource), the test wiki is at the "Incubator Wiki". For Wikisource though it should be done right here. Make sure you have some good content there and a bit of activity. I would suggest contacting people at the language committee and calling attention to the request. Ultimately I don't think there should be a problem. Dovi (talk) 13:52, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
- Namaste! I've always felt it really a shame that for years nobody actually pursued the creation of Hindi Wikisource. Now if you are willing to work for it and can call other people too, that's really good news :) I have only an extremely basic knowledge of Hindi, so I'm afraid I cannot actively help you; but if you need general help and advices on how to obtain the creation of hi.source, I'm here :) There seems to be a lot of content already on wikisource.org, so that should not be a problem; you should start with revising and reorganizing those texts, and find other people who want to join: this is a crucial step, because every new project needs to prove that there is a certain number of people actually working on it. But as there are plenty of speakers, this should not be a problem: maybe this project only needs someone who starts, then others will follow :) So I think you can just write on hi.pedia or other projects and you should find somebody. Also contacting existing Wikisources in other Indian languages can help. Then you can write to members of the language committee stating the situation and asking them what they think you lack for obtaining the project. You can also work on improving localisation on translatewiki. This for now, but don't hesitate to write me if you have any specific question. Ciao, Candalua (talk) 17:23, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
- As I understand it, to get Hindi Wikisource open, all the messages need to be translated into Hindi (see the comment from John Vandenberg at m:Requests for new languages/Wikisource Hindi#Other discussion) and there needs to be consistent work on Hindi text materials from several different editors here at Multilingual Wikisource. "Eligible" just means "eligible in principle", it doesn't mean "ready to go". —Angr 21:30, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
