Hi, you asked me about 칵 and kak (khak). OK... In syllable-initial position, ㅋ is always aspirated, unlike ㄱ or ㄲ. So we can safely leave out the <h> letter. --Kjoonlee 02:33, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Zyephyrus
editHow are you doing?
Sorry for this delay, but I was a little confused about this multilingual section. I still have to read some things to see what it is exactly, as I am used to the Wikisourse in Portuguese language. Give me some time and, when I have some doubts, I will come to you for some help, is that fine?
Once again, thanks so much for the first message. Hugs, Manoel-Rio 20:16, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Number of pages
editHi, Zyephyrus,
I've noticed that the main page on Multilingual Wikisource shows the total number of pages on Portuguese Wikisource wrongly. Instead of "+ 17 000", Portuguese Wikisource has "+ 81 000". Can that be fixed somehow? Best wishes, Manoel FernándezMsg 00:09, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, Zyephyrus, thanks for the reply. I really do agree with that. We also had the same discussion somewhere on Portuguese Wikisource, but no one came to a conclusion as the matter is a little difficult to be solved (but not impossible, I shall say). Counting pages as new books is completely wrong and books whichever language they may be, there will be considerable different pages, giving the wrong idea of numbers of books on a Source. But, let's wait and see what is going to be done about that. I hope it comes to an end still this year (as the fact really needs attention). Best wishes, Manoel FernándezMsg 10:56, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- Me again. I left a message to you on French Wikisource and was tempted to read the messages on the Scriptorium and, for my surprise, there is a "topic" about us? Not that you can't do it, but people saying that what we do is "inutile" and that dictionaires do not count for the statistics, that is unfair. Have you all discussed about the English Wikisource and the dictionaires they have there? Most of them have one page for each entry and just because we put dictionaires on our source, we are less important? Zyephyrus, this is not fair with us. I only asked you to update an information and all I had was a couple of pages where the discussion is going on and nothing else. It seems to me that this is something about who has more here and there and I never came here to ask you to update something because "we are second"; I never said that. If that was the matter to me, I would never be contributing to English Wikisource, as they are first and I want to reach them. But, instead, I contribute to English Wikisource when I have the time and this is what we all have to do, apart from this nonsense thing of who is first and second: try and spread the knowledge somehow, no matter in which language. Remember: I never wrote any word about "being second" or "second place", because this is not what counts to me, but instead the right to work in a place where information are updated and reliable. Sorry for the words, but I am feeling really hurt with this all, but who cares other than myself? I am just someone who is trying to make it better for everyone. Now, back to my work on Portuguese Wikisource and whereelse I am welcome to work and there is no need to update the information on the main page. Best wishes, Manoel FernándezMsg 12:08, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- Zyephyrus, I told you that this is a problem and some people discussed that somewhere on Portuguese Wikisource, when I was not an active user there. I always thought counting all pages was not right, but only complete books. This should be what counts most, but finding a solution is difficult, I know. I am thinking about something and will let you know soon. Best wishes, Manoel FernándezMsg 14:14, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Problème avec l'affichage en mode page
editBonjour,
- Cdlt, VIGNERON 08:22, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
- iwpage, c'est-à-dire template:iwpage ?
--Zyephyrus 16:18, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

problem with proofread
editHi, ThomasV told me that you added some new fields like Scans and Progress, but they seem not be working properly... See Index:Le Rime Veneziane e Il Minuetto.djvu, it asks me for a {{Source}} parameter that I cannot find anymore... And what are the possible values for Progress? I cannot figure that out... Candalua 10:25, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Ok, maybe I have understand... in MediaWiki:Proofreadpage index attributes we've got "Scans", but it should be "Source" (not the other way round, since existing pages all use source). Also, I don't understand why you dropped the Image field... what's wrong with having the cover image in the index page? Last one: in MediaWiki:Proofreadpage index template we've got {{DEFAULTSORT:{{{Key|}}}}}, but we don't have a "Key" field... why not simply use {{DEFAULTSORT:{{PAGENAME}}}}? Candalua 10:47, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Candalua. Image cover is back, the missing fields Source and Key have been added. Seems to work on your index, please check, is everything all right? The Progress parameter isn't built yet. Thanks and regards, --Zyephyrus 16:31, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Ok, everything seems alright, many thanks. Ok for the "Key" field, but it will be also useful to have {{PAGENAME}} as default sort (see Category:Index, pages are being categorised by default under "I"). However this is a minor issue. Thanks again, ciao Candalua 08:56, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Fr.wikisource templates
editHi! You imported some templates from fr.wikisource in September (link). Are these still needed? Looks like they're not used anywhere, but if they're needed they should probably be moved into the template namespace. Regards, Jafeluv 19:12, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

editHello, I am new to wiki-anything and I can't find my way in this maze. I can speak, read, write and translate hindi, marathi, sanskrit and to a large extent english into each other. I also have a little knowledge of HML etc that I will have to brush up. I am still unable to figure out what all I can do on wiki-which, as in, there's a wikisource, there's wikimedia, then there's something where translations are going on, and so on and so forth.
Can you please guide me in what way I can be useful? Yaajushi 04:32, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

editThank you sir. The help on editing was the most useful.
I suppose articles are translated from one language to other. I couldn't find out anything about it. I can translate from english to hindi/marathi/sanskrit. I just can't figure out what to do with the articles I translate.
Thanks again.

editZyephyrus, Do you think my Bot request has consensus for flagging?
Also, any thoughts on consensus regarding my request for transwiki importer rights? I know you can't action that one but it will probably be best if it's closed by a local crat who contacts a steward (I do not understand why this right, which is part of the standard sysop-bundle, cannot be granted by crats - but that's another thread, which you might want to comment on ;-)).

- BTW, could one of you look at my thread above? If it's not enough for consensus yet that's fine, just let me know. Or if I should be posting to WS:Bureaucrats with such requests, though the second and more important one is simply asking for someone to close the discussion if it's ready, since it needs a Steward; and I thought I'd be more likely to be seen here.--Doug.(talk • contribs) 06:17, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Multi-language texts
editThanks for your welcome. I do have one question that I couldn't find the right policy document on. Does this wiki host multi-language documents where one or both languages have their own domains? The question has come up on a joint English-German text on English wikisource, where the German pages are currently not proofread. If they are, would it be sensible to move it here? Removal of message
editMy posting has been removed. I am NOT trying to sell, or infect your site. I am trying to assist this thread. I am using this thread as a source, and in repayment, I am trying to add to it. You will of course know, that this thread is incomplete. It is supposed to be the 4 Gospels in P.U.L.'s Irish, but only Matthew's Gospel is present, and incomplete. I am doing parallel work, and offering to the generator of this thread, my work, so (s)he can add to this thread with minimum effort. I have just finished pages 167 - 172, and posted the results to the address I gave. This is a Box.net site, which is a mirror of a folder on my computer. It should be completely safe. Actually, I would be happier to communicate directly with the author of the thread which I am using as a source.
Best regards, Dave.

- Thanks for the message on my TalkPage. I appreciate this though I'm more familiar with this project than you might think. I used to be Patio (or a variation of this screen name) on many Wikimedia Foundation projects. Since there are more I had to choose a different name for creating a SUL.

An important message about renaming users
editDear Zyephyrus,
I am cross-posting this message to many places to make sure everyone who is a Wikimedia Foundation project bureaucrat receives a copy. If you are a bureaucrat on more than one wiki, you will receive this message on each wiki where you are a bureaucrat.
As you may have seen, work to perform the Wikimedia cluster-wide single-user login finalisation (SUL finalisation) is taking place. This may potentially effect your work as a local bureaucrat, so please read this message carefully.
Why is this happening? As currently stated at the global rename policy, a global account is a name linked to a single user across all Wikimedia wikis, with local accounts unified into a global collection. Previously, the only way to rename a unified user was to individually rename every local account. This was an extremely difficult and time-consuming task, both for stewards and for the users who had to initiate discussions with local bureaucrats (who perform local renames to date) on every wiki with available bureaucrats. The process took a very long time, since it's difficult to coordinate crosswiki renames among the projects and bureaucrats involved in individual projects.
The SUL finalisation will be taking place in stages, and one of the first stages will be to turn off Special:RenameUser locally. This needs to be done as soon as possible, on advice and input from Stewards and engineers for the project, so that no more accounts that are unified globally are broken by a local rename to usurp the global account name. Once this is done, the process of global name unification can begin. The date that has been chosen to turn off local renaming and shift over to entirely global renaming is 15 September 2014, or three weeks time from now. In place of local renames is a new tool, hosted on Meta, that allows for global renames on all wikis where the name is not registered will be deployed.
Your help is greatly needed during this process and going forward in the future if, as a bureaucrat, renaming users is something that you do or have an interest in participating in. The Wikimedia Stewards have set up, and are in charge of, a new community usergroup on Meta in order to share knowledge and work together on renaming accounts globally, called Global renamers. Stewards are in the process of creating documentation to help global renamers to get used to and learn more about global accounts and tools and Meta in general as well as the application format. As transparency is a valuable thing in our movement, the Stewards would like to have at least a brief public application period. If you are an experienced renamer as a local bureaucrat, the process of becoming a part of this group could take as little as 24 hours to complete. You, as a bureaucrat, should be able to apply for the global renamer right on Meta by the requests for global permissions page on 1 September, a week from now.
In the meantime please update your local page where users request renames to reflect this move to global renaming, and if there is a rename request and the user has edited more than one wiki with the name, please send them to the request page for a global rename.
Stewards greatly appreciate the trust local communities have in you and want to make this transition as easy as possible so that the two groups can start working together to ensure everyone has a unique login identity across Wikimedia projects. Completing this project will allow for long-desired universal tools like a global watchlist, global notifications and many, many more features to make work easier.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns about the SUL finalisation, read over the Help:Unified login page on Meta and leave a note on the talk page there, or on the talk page for global renamers. You can also contact me on my talk page on meta if you would like. I'm working as a bridge between Wikimedia Foundation Engineering and Product Development, Wikimedia Stewards, and you to assure that SUL finalisation goes as smoothly as possible; this is a community-driven process and I encourage you to work with the Stewards for our communities.
Thank you for your time. -- Keegan (WMF) talk 18:24, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

WikiEditor custom button tip
editJust a FYI since I noticed you 'playing' with custom WikiEditor buttons...
You can hide/show any WikiEditor button per the namespace(s) you want/don't want a button to be generated in using the 'filters': parameter. For example, to only show the "Welcome" button in the User: & User talk: namespaces, you'd add the 'filters': parameter as depicted below....
/* Accueil */
if ( typeof $j != 'undefined' && typeof $j.fn.wikiEditor != 'undefined' ) {$j( function() {
$j( '#wpTextbox1' ).wikiEditor( 'addToToolbar', {
'section': 'advanced',
'group': 'format',
'tools': {'Welcome': {
label: 'Welcome',
filters: [ 'body.ns-2, body.ns-3' ],
type: 'button',
icon: 'http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/12/Button_accueilA.png',
action: {type: 'encapsulate',
options: { pre: "{{Welcome}}~~", post: "~~}}"
}}}}});});}
Hope that helps - any questions ask me over on en.WS. -- George Orwell III (talk) 22:02, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

visibility
editHi. Some more times I have seen that you cahnge the visibility of deleted pages (you hide the version). Why? Just beside the fact, that you would get some troubles on the german WP (it will not be hidden in such cases), it has no sense: if you delete a page, so it can be read by admins only; if you hide it, so it is the same, it can be read by admins only. No difference. Regards, -jkb- (talk) 15:28, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Bot flag

It.source style for complex tables
editHi Zyephyrus, I see that you are a fr.source user too, and I'm a fan of that project - my effort is, to try anything for emulate and develop the excellent ideas of that project.
If you like, take a look to User:Alex brollo/Table, where I uploaded a pretty complex it.source table. To visualize its format, you'd need to upload into your common.css the css code you'll find into the same page; the key template Cs is already running. If you like the result, and if you thing that the needed code could be useful for other users here, please consider to add css into MediaWiki:Common.css. If fr.source has some better code to get the same result, please let me known about.
I'd like too, to have your opinion about nap.source "tools block", but this is far more complex and needs en doc to understand what it can do; many functions are vaguely related to your fr.source "mise en page". --Alex brollo (talk) 09:19, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
Update of Template:Table
editI imported into it.source the beautiful fr:Template:Table in its Lua version; I see that here Template:Table is a copy of a previous, not-Lua version of the fr.source template. I'd like to import here fr:Model:Table and the "bridge" related template, but I see that the running template is used here and there into pages different from nap.source ones. Can I boldly try to update the template? Can you help me to see if there's any drawback/wasting of others work from my try? --Alex brollo (talk) 09:36, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello and am I autoconfirmed yet?
editHello Zyephyrus, I started to input a book on Wikisource using pages that already existed. Those used an abbreviation of title and I realise that this is not good according the style guide. I will continue to insert the other chapters using the correct naming convention, but I need to know how/when I can move/rename the first chapters. Also, I'm having a bit of trouble with header template, it is not understanding relative links and I think its sintax are correct. Here is a sample of it failing: /KGD/Quo_esas_Ido%3F --Luiz borges (talk) 14:17, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

editplease notice this article सूर के पद-2. the initial version was written in hindi, but was replaced with english and emoji by IP user and new user Ransh Rajput. it seems like vandalism. so i reverted it to initial version yesterday, but was reverted by Ransh Rajput to emoji version today. is it vadalism? should i revert the article to the initial version again? --El caballero de los Leones (talk) 14:06, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

editBonjour Zyephyrus,
Reptilien.19831209BE1 (talk) 07:49, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oups, désolé pour le dérangement, j'ai trouvé tout seul :-) Reptilien.19831209BE1 (talk) 08:37, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks!
editHi, Zyephyrus. Thank you very much for your welcome. If I made any mistake please tell me, since I am somewhat a beginner but I am a lover of wikipedia. Thank you again. -Daniel.
Congratulations for France's win in the 2018 FIFA World Cup
editHello, Zyephyrus! Though I don't know whether do you either like football, but I still want to bring my congratulations for the victory of France in the current Football World Cup, since (as far as I know) you are also from France. :) The today's playing of the French team during the Final was excellent (maybe except some game flaws which are yet needless to be talked about), and though I was feeling myself, during watching that match, rather as supporter of the Croatia team (perhaps based on the thought that for the Russia's team, who before had lost to the Croatia's team, it would be more honourable to be losers from the team which subsequently became the final champion of the whole tournament), nevertheless I am sure France honestly and undoubtedly deserves to become winners at this championship. :) Hope that the French people feel joy from this tournament, and also feel joy (or at least, don't feel sad) from our country (Russia) which hosted it. Good luck :) --Nigmont (talk) 20:58, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks :-) --Zyephyrus (talk) 07:39, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

Inviting spambots
editI doubt if there is any point to invite spambots.
Maybe check AbuseLog before inviting accounts without contribution? Ankry (talk) 07:47, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- I don't desire to invite spambots, certainly not :-)
- Can you find a way for welcoming all visitors, spambots excepted? Welcoming visitors is important too.
- Ideas? What can we do? --Zyephyrus (talk) 22:05, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- 100% agree. And no offence.
- What about my suggestion above to check the AbuseLog while inviting visitors (accounts without edits)?
- Most spambots use the following procedure:
- create an account
- attempt to make some spam-like edit (eg. about viagra or inviting to some private blog); in most cases this happens in the minute just after the account is created
- become sleeper account that may be used later or not.
- spambots are generally targeted to a single wiki; in most cases they do not create accounts elsewhere, except automatically created ones.
- If at the invitation time there is an antry in the AbuseLog, you can check what exactly the account attempted to do. If there is no entry in the AbuseLog, or the entries there do not suggest a spambot action, the user is to be invited (or maybe even they need help because of a blocked edit). Admins like you or me can view the "details" of the edit attempt that has been blocked.
- BTW, most "visitors" are not shown in recent changes (eg. if they come here after creating an account on another wiki. Only the accounts created primarily here are shown (and they often appear to be spambots...).
- If we enable automatic invitation, we will not be able to avoid inviting spambots. Automatic software cannot identify them (or at least cannot do it yet) while a human can try. That is why I do not support enabling automating invitations. Ankry (talk) 15:41, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

Request to de-flag BrolloBot
editSome time ago I used User:BrolloBot to help a little bit about pages in Neapolitan; by now, nap.source has been created and active, and I don't need any more to drive a bot into mulwikisource. So, if an inactive bot account is anyway disturbing, please de-flag it. Thanks for the exciting experience, it has been a great opportunity to learn a lot. --Alex brollo (talk) 21:27, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

- Bien amicalement,
Hello! Thank you for the links. I've just started to work with Wikisource. And I think that Kazakh project needs it's own subdomain. Can you help with it? --Ерден Карсыбеков (talk) 13:07, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
How we will see unregistered users
editHi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Need your input on a policy impacting gadgets and UserJS
editDear interface administrator,
This is Samuel from the Security team and I hope my message finds you well.
There is an ongoing discussion on a proposed policy governing the use of external resources in gadgets and UserJS. The proposed Third-party resources policy aims at making the UserJS and Gadgets landscape a bit safer by encouraging best practices around external resources. After an initial non-public conversation with a small number of interface admins and staff, we've launched a much larger, public consultation to get a wider pool of feedback for improving the policy proposal. Based on the ideas received so far, the proposed policy now includes some of the risks related to user scripts and gadgets loading third-party resources, best practices for gadgets and UserJS developers, and exemptions requirements such as code transparency and inspectability.
As an interface administrator, your feedback and suggestions are warmly welcome until July 17, 2023 on the policy talk page.
Have a great day!Samuel (WMF), on behalf of the Foundation's Security team 23:02, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
