StevenJ81
Hello StevenJ81, welcome to the multilingual Wikisource! Thanks for your interest in the project; we hope you'll enjoy the community and your work here.
This wiki is the original Wikisource wiki, originally hosting works in many languages. The larger collections have been spawned into separate projects, leaving this wiki to serve as a central collaboration point, and as an environment where works without a language subdomain can be started. Refer to our languages list to see which languages still reside on this wiki. You can find a list of the separate language projects on the main page or here and you may want to look at the our coordination page for limitations on placing certain works on the separate language projects.
Most questions and discussions about the community are in the Scriptorium.
The Community Portal lists tasks you can help with if you wish. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page!
Hi! :) I create Wikisource:Active tests so you can now easily see the activity/number of contributors etc. of all tests here. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 13:18, 28 April 2018 (UTC)
- Ooswesthoesbes: This is massively useful! Thanks.
- I made a couple of changes, to make it more useful to me, at least:
- Added link to language article.
- Added link to catanalysis tool (that's the link from the langcode).
- Added other active users where they exist. That's good for me, because when there are three I can easily take that to LangCom.
- Per a discussion that I had with someone here recently, continuously active communities may not be quite as important for a Wikisource project as they would be for others. But I doubt LangCom would be very comfortable approving Georgian, for example, because LangCom is (justifiably) nervous about true one-person shows; having a project like that here ensures at least a little oversight. I might be willing to take a Wikisource that has just two active contributors, both with very solid track records. But it's going to be hard for me to justify approving a test with a single active contributor.
- Finally, can you get the Sundanese group to settle on a single main category? That makes determining activity much trickier. Thanks. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:35, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- Very good! :)
- Yes, I understand that one-man projects are problematic. Maybe we can post a message on the Georgian Wikipedia, urging other contributors to check the contents and maybe get involved as well. That way, this project might get the little extra it needs.
- As it stands, I believe the Piedmontese Wikisource is near the point where it should be. So the focus for now will be looking at that project for the next approval.
- Yes, I will address the Sundanese issue later. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 10:09, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Ooswesthoesbes: Concerning Georgian, I think better if @Giakosh does that, since s/he speaks Georgian. I'll ask on his/her talk page.
- I was going to propose approval of Piedmontese Wikisource to LangCom this morning. Is there a reason that it's not ready yet? (I'll wait to hear from you.) StevenJ81 (talk) 13:03, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, that might be better.
- As far as I'm concerned, the Piedmontese Wikisource can be approved. They have been working hard and built up a substantial corpse of texts. I'm not aware about the progress on localisation though. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 13:07, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- There are a number of translations listed as "outdated", so perhaps you'll ask the people on the project to address those. But overall, localization seems to be fine. I'll put them in this morning (my time). StevenJ81 (talk) 13:14, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- Alright :) --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 13:17, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Ooswesthoesbes: I created a subtemplate called Wikisource:Active tests/row. I've populated the main template with it (but simply commented out other things for now). But you're going to be the one updating this, mostly, not me. Question: is it easier for you to use the "row" subtemplate, or easier for you just to code the page directly? StevenJ81 (talk) 22:46, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
- I'll look into that later today. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 08:55, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- I think it looks fine :) However, I'd suggest a few amendments if it's not too difficult. For example, a link to meta (with optional thing to change it if it's a second/third/... request), and make it possible to add a fourth (or even a fifth) user. You never know, a test can always become very active if they are lucky :) --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 13:08, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

@Ooswesthoesbes:Easy enough to add link to Meta requests. Note: Other than Ws/pms, only two others have requests open: Ws/jv and Ws/ka. It's useful to know that. But in the future, it's probably better if you encourage community members to create the requests, rather than doing so yourself. (MF-W initially questioned whether the pms community really wanted a subdomain because you created the request.)
As for user4 and user5, I think for now just put those into "Notes" manually. The real issue (for my purposes, at least) is: Are there at least three active participants making edits? After all, that is the minimum requirement for a final approval. If we can't fill in three names, I can't take the project to LangCom. If there are more than three, it doesn't matter, as long as there are at least three. So I don't want to make this more complicated than it needs to be. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:04, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, I already thought of that myself. Or get a clear "yes" on a talk page from the community before creating the request myself.
- You are right, we can always put them in the notes if there are very active users :) --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 14:32, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
Napolitan Wikisource
editWhat is the state of this test? I thought there was talk about approving it, but I can't find anything of it. Should I add it to the active tests or is it safe to assume it's going to be approved anyway? --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 13:48, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
- Discussion is here. No, please add it. The activity was sufficient in, say, 2016, but has been spottier lately. I'd like to see it a little stronger first. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:00, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
- Alright :) --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 14:10, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
Collapse archive
editHi :) Could you please collapse the archive for May on Wikisource:Active tests for me? --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 15:38, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
