I would like to be able to change text in the MediWiki namespace. Because Administrators who understand Japanese are few now, I think that the sysop who can speak Japanese is necessary to delete Japanese pages. (These sentences are machine translations.) --Shin-改 07:29, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I do a lot of clean-up where it would be easier for me just to delete orphaned redirect pages then use them to clutter up our proposed deletions page. And of course, there's always the wonderful vandalism we have to revert. Zhaladshar 14:11, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hello! I'm an editor who edits hungarian-related articles. I regularly should delete hungarian-related pages (I made them wrongly when I was a newcomer) or translate the hungarian environment. Where can I request adminship? Please, answer on my Talk page Gubbubu 3 July 2005 07:38 (UTC)

Hi! In the past week I have started to get quite involved here at Wikisource, continuing the long-slog with the Diary of Samuel Pepys and helping get the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica into gear. I also did the recent redesign of the Community Portal. I have done lots of work over at Wikipedia (see my user page there for more). I would like admin status so that I don't have to keep nag people when tidying and doing grunt work in areas like the Category namespace. Greg Robson 21:36, 13 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I have worked here for several months, mostly about the laws of the Republic of China administering Taiwan (not copyrightable based on the law there). I am an experienced administrator in Chinese Wikipeida and registered user in English and French versions of Wikipedia for long time. As my native language is traditional Chinese and I also use simplified Chinese, English, and French, I would like to apply to become an administrator. My English but not French is fluent.--Jusjih 07:55, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Requests for importing right

I would like to request importing right for wikisource.org . Please see also q:Wikiquote:Requests_for_adminship/Archives/2007#Requests_for_importing_right where I got importing right on Wikiquote and my Wikiquote importing log. User:-jkb- from Czech wiki

edit

Hereby I request the admin rights for Wikisource(.org). I am user of the Czech Wiki (also German one etc.) since May 2004, beeing there admin since November 2004. As we would like to develop the Czech section of Wikisource, we are sure we would need an user there with admin right. I proposed on the Village pump that I will apply fort he rights and there was a great support for this in very short time (see ). Later on we surely will request for an own damain, it is in discussion now. Thx. -jkb- 11:49, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

After the meta page for requests was locked, I spoke to ThomasV who suggested to put my sysop request right here. Once again: there is no cs:wikisource at the time, we shall probably apply for it, but for the present I would like to ge the admin rights here to carry the Czech section and probably to prepare our ouw subdomain. So, how should we go on? -jkb- 16:19, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. @ ThomasV: patrol of pages to be deleted, patrol of vandalism: sure, that is what I do as an admin on cs:wiki since one year and what is also necessary here (BTW, I announced some vandalists here yet), I am not like to care off the cs section of wikisource only… :-), -jkb- 16:07, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have absolutely no reason to be an admin here, except for one small thing: I would like to be able to contribute to the Main Page at times. If that is a good enough reason, then I'm applying.Dovi 07:27, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I am inspired to make this request by the blatant copyvio of BF interpreter, which even contained a 2005 copyright assertion. It should have been shot on sight. Had it not been copyright I would have moved it to EN: and then wanted to delete it from this domain. So, please can I have access to the admin tools so that I can housekeep more efficiently. I have been an admin at en:wikipedia for about a year. I have a rudimentary reading knowledge of several European languages. I have contributed to en:wikipedia, fr:wikipedia, no:wikipedia, en:wikisource, en:wikiquote, commons, and meta. —Theo ((Talk) 18:19 3 January 2006

I oppose the nomination of User:TheoClarke as sysop. Reasons:

  • He had about 50 edits at the time of nomination.
  • He was not supported by anyone except by you.
  • He proposed to delete a page after it was vandalized, without checking its history. I had to restore the page.

please revert this nomination if you can. ThomasV 10:02, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. This candidate looks acceptable to me while he has edited more than 100 times by now. This multilingual site is no longer very active while dozens of language subdomains have broken away.--Jusjih 07:05, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I still support him. I just counted his 355 edits. We should not leave this candidacy hanging around forever.--Jusjih 11:28, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The user has very few edits; after time, I may change my vote. TheoClarke just needs some more experience. I do like the fact that he will be contributing on this wiki in Catalan (since it currently does not have its own sub-domain). We don't need any more administrators who are going to be popping in and out every once in a while, not really working on anything, but one who will be fairly active here.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 18:32, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Mild support. I'm changing my vote to mild support. From the time TheoClarke requested administrator rights to the current day, he's shown himself a capable editor. And, he can work with pages I think very few of us can actually work with, which is a bonus. If Theo would become a little more active here (as active as can be on this wiki--which I know isn't that much), I'd change my vote to full support.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 17:07, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just a little story. From somebody who is here since six months, anyway a sysop here. I am also a sysop on the cs:wiki. Shortly after I have been made a sysop there, once I saw in the Recent changes a new user, who made some five excellent articles in some two hours. So I wrote him and made an invitation, said have good luck here, congratulating him for this extreme good deal. I saved this edit. Five minutes later I opened the Recent changes again. Another sysop put all five edits of this new pretty user as copyvio - I have forgotten to controll this, that's all. After this I look after copyvio first. As this very complicated man from Russia (V. I. Lenin) said: learn, learn, learn (as I come from CS, so I had to learn this...). So, I do not want to vote for TheoClarke or against him, I just wanted to tell you this little story. -jkb- 19:00, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I still oppose this nomination. I agree that this user has been willing to participate in a constructive way; I even agree that he has made useful contributions, by adding language categories to many pages. However, the sheer number of edits is not a criterion. The nature of the mistakes he made is such that I cannot support him :

  • This user proposed to delete a page that was vandalized, without checking its history. He would have deleted it "on sight" if he had been allowed to. this was at the time he applied. since then, he has made other mistakes.
  • Apparently, he is not aware that we have a latin subdomain: he tried to "improve" Lorem ipsum on ws.org, while this file belongs in la.wikisource.org. This "improvement" consisted in copy-pasting information from wikipedia (in fifteen different languages) to wikisource. This suggests that he fails to understand the difference between wikipedia and wikisource, and the organization of wikisource. You have to check the edit history of Lorem ipsum to see that, because I deleted the file; it is no longer in his list of contributions. Anyway, I think that an admin should have a minimal understanding of what wikisource is and how it is organized.
  • He flagged work by Tomislav Dretar as copyvio. I know that not everybody is supposed to know who Dretar is; but still, this indicates that he has only very focused interest, in very specific questions, such as copyvio and language categories.
  • He spent time transwikifying British locations to wikipedia. since then they seem to have deleted it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_locations
  • He made only 4 edits in the last month. Seems to have moved to other centers of interest.
  • Finally, I guess this candidacy is still around simply because we nobody has archived it.

ThomasV 19:28, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Many of the errors, to me, can be explained simply as being newly experienced to heavy editing at WS. His Lorem ipsum mistake still happened in January, and holding that against him does not take into account all of February where he would have had time to learn more correct procedures. But I'd rather not argue about these points. Let's just archive the nomination; it doesn't seem that he's all that active here, so I see no reason to grant the rights. Also, no real consensus was reached at the time that he applied for administrator rights. If he wants them, he'll need to do a renomination for the position.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 20:59, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what the drill is here, as I dont see many recent requests for adminship. I am an admin on en.WP, and a rather recent admin on en.WS, and would like to be an admin on this wiki for two reason:

  1. in order to drill down from the history there to here. For example, s:en:Take up the cudgels in defence of Hungarian started off here on the main site as Take up the cudgels in defence of hungarian - it has recently come up on s:en:Wikisource:Proposed deletions. I would like to be able to see the deleted history here in order to properly investigate any clues in the history of it here. I am sure this will not be the last time I am overly curious and would like to investigate the history here.
  2. to be available to quickly halt vandalism sprees, especially when it occurs in my TZ (GMT +10), such as the Grawp vandalism that happened here tonight. In comparison, the vandal was blocked immediately on en.WS before any damage was done. I don't have any edits here, but I will learn the ropes and help out when I know what I am doing.

Jayvdb 12:30, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. We have virtually no new requests for adminship here once language subdomains have broken away, then admins here can longer administer Wikisource pages in all languages as adminship is not automatically cross-honoured among subdomains. For me, I have been an admin here before making subdomains, but I had to get separate adminship on English and Chinese Wikisources. For you, even though you have not had many edits here, I would like to welcome you based on your experience as an admin on English Wikipedia and Wikisource, so you can check page history that have not been fully transwikied. I have temporarily undeleted the article that you are concerned of for your desire. When finished, it can be deleted again.--Jusjih 03:08, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have three points to clear:

  1. which languages has been created and must be deleted here
  2. if you give us a list of the pages we could surely delete it by ourselves if it is not a huge amount of pages
  3. if it is too much so you could request for temporary adminship for this purpose, say for one week.

Thx, -jkb- 17:49, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I support Vassiliev. A trusted member of the broader Wikimedian community. --Dungodung 20:28, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, sure I know who Vasiliev is. But, apart of this: to say "I would like to delete here something" is not a reason to grant regular sysop rights, I guess. That Vasiliev imported some 300 pages for the li-WS I did not know at the moment, I saw it later. An Vasiliev asked on meta for temporary rights in some more cases. Therefore I support the request, but just like a temporary request. I hope it will not be understood just like a mistrust, but a request for sysop rights is something else, I think. - - Vasiliev: OK? - - -jkb- 15:28, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Limburgish Wikisource. I think it'll be not the only Wikisource I'll ever import (surely we'll have more wikisources in the future), so I need permanent adminship --VasilievVV 16:27, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all. I am requesting sysop access for two reasons: I regularly patrol recent changes both on-wiki and on IRC, and I would like to be able to delete obvious vandalism and the like. Also, I would like to be able to update protected templates like {{InterLingvLigoj}} and {{TopTenCircle}}, etc. I am a sysop on the Simple English Wiktionary and Simple English Wikiquote, and am also a rollbacker on the Simple English Wikipedia and English Wikipedia. Thank you for your consideration. Maximillion Pegasus 20:31, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I am requesting for adminship on the Multilingual Wikisource as I plan to actively participate here for the long term. I've been quite active on many other wikis for nearly 2 years, as shown on my userpage. The wikis include English Wikipedia, Meta, Commons, Incubator, etc. (and now Wikisource). I should add that I have neither attained nor requested for previous admin rights on any wiki, but Wikisource is certainly a good place to start, where it's more calm and far less hectic than enwiki :)

On Oldwikisource, I have been actively updating and contributing to Coptic Wikisource, which has about 20 pages now. I have requested and took part in transferring and renaming it, along with Ancient Greek Wikisource, to Multilingual Wikisource. Needless to say, it was a long task that took several hours ...so in that case, they're not likely going to have their own subdomains any time in the foreseeable future.

At this point, I am actively engaged in updating, correcting, and adding new pages in Wikisource, particularly in the development of Coptic Wikisource. I would like to have admin privileges in order to be able to edit additional pages such as MediaWiki options, remove vandalism, protect pages when needed, delete unnecessary or unhelpful pages (which can easily turn up in page moves), and do similar tasks that would require sysop rights.

If you would like a full list of other wikis that I have registered on, it is available here. ~Troy 02:11, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. I've very impressed with the record of your contributions to Coptic texts here, and I think it is crucial that these texts be supported. Your contributions also show both dedication and technical know-how. Since Coptic texts may be here for a long while, I think it is important that you have admin tools, which you can also use to contribute towards general maintenance as well. Dovi 21:39, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I also support, however I don't see activity here or on en.wp. Eclecticology, has he responded to you? I think he should be given sysop as soon as he resumes activity here. John Vandenberg 00:50, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, supporting this view. -jkb- 19:19, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

After hesitations, I finally proper request adminiship. I’m essentialy active on the breton part of this wiki (I did some contributions before but not a lot), so I will just be a temporary sysop (or not, we’ll see in some months).

I need sysop right for deletion (near 170 page here) and help on the breton part but I will help on the whole wiki if needed (and apparently there is some need). I will do some add on MediaWiki:Common.css too (class text for example).

I speak french (mother tongue), english (as you can see ;) ), and a bit of breton, german, latin, chinese, japanese. I’m already sysop on fr.WP, COM and fr.WS.

In addition to here, I'm active on the following wikisource subdomains: en.ws (admin and bot operator), la.ws (bureaucrat and bot operator), de.ws, and occasionally fr.ws and some others, I'm also active on the following other wikimedia projects: mw.org (admin and bot operator), meta (bot operator), and Commons. One of my primary interests is cross-subdomain work in wikisource and I've set up an experimental wiki to test new processes and I've been active in interwiki linking issues as well as gnomish work like archiving this page. edit

Hello! It's been some months since I tag Gujarati pages for deletion, previous verification of the page in gu.source. Still 434 pages are pending deletion (plus its redirects). I was thinking that some admins may be hating me every time I tag a dozen of such pages (I can feel it! ;D) So what about giving me a temporary adminship exclusively for deleting Gujarati pages? That would give you more time for other things (those deletions do not worth the consumption of double, golden, time). Once that all of them are deleted (and transfered to gu.source if they still are not there), then I'll ask for the removal of adminship. I don't want a permanent one because I'm already sysop at ca.source and es.source and that's too much yet. Thanks! -Aleator 23:08, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

And... yes, love wins ;DD -Aleator 23:26, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well, as for me, Aleator did a great work, and he is a very trustfull user, so I would propose he keeps his admin rights just to help here with the business as usual :-) -jkb- (talk) 00:19, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe @Aleator: should be notified? I doubt he is aware of this discussion. Ankry (talk) 18:39, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! Mmm... I'd rather prefer to be desysoped. I'm a bit uncomfortable with 4 adminships while a lot of users have zero (I'll keep just 2 of them). Also, I feel more "free" not being an admin :) Maintenance tasks can be perfectly done without admin buttons. Thanks a lot for your trust, guys! -Aleator 18:59, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
OK, Aleator, however, it is your decision. We cannot do it here, desysoping must be applied by yourself on meta here. But anyway, thank you very much for your very good work! Regards, -jkb- (talk) 22:57, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Satdeep Gill (talk contribs blocks protects deletions moves rights)

Hello everyone, I am Satdeep Gill. Here on Wikisource I have been mainly working on Punjabi (pa) language but now I have found some texts in other languages and Google OCR is also somewhat these texts now. I will be working mainly on Hindi, Urdu and Western Punjabi languages here. I am testing Google OCR on these languages here and I would like to request temporary adminship. Thank you. --Satdeep Gill (talk) 10:18, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Satdeep Gill! Let me ask you which are the functions of sysop that you would like to use more? Thanks! -Aleator 12:41, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi User:Aleator, As a sysop I would delete some useless pages if created while testing Google OCR on various scripts. I also see that only one of the current sysops knows a South Asian language. I can keep a check on the work being done in language communities such as Hindi, Urdu, Western Punjabi and Nepali and also help them if required. I have also started importing some useful templates to this Wikisource.--Satdeep Gill (talk) 12:57, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
While I have no objections concerning the candidate's skils and responsibility, it is still unclear to me what temporary work the adminship rights are requested for (or for how long). The presented above justification for the request (at least its second part) suggests rather request for permanent, not temporary, adminship. Also, while it is likely for Hindi Wikisource to be separated soon, I don't think that about Punjabi, so I hope Satdeep Gill will not leave us soon. I would suggest @Satdeep Gill: to be more precise about purpose for his adminship, or to start a new request for permanent adminship. Just for clarity: we should know what exactly we are voting for. Ankry (talk) 12:13, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Ankry: I am importing some useful templates to Wikisource as well and some times during such work and OCR testing , there is an error. I would be using my rights to work efficiently in that direction. Besides that I will be working to facilitate other small communities. Even if Hindi Wikisource is created, that will not stop me from working on Nepali, Punjabi, Tibetan and other languages. I hope i have made myself clear. I would surely like permanent rights but after a temporary period. --Satdeep Gill (talk) 01:43, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, my name is Liliya Kaipova ( in English Wiki, in Russian Wiki).. I do some work here for Bashkort language Wikiteka. After I looked at some articles, I found that some authors does not have information about rules Wikisource. I woild like to take right of ”sysop” (Administrator) for Bashkir project Викикитапхана Main Page/Башҡортса for improving quality of articles. My target – to help Викикитапхана Main Page/Башҡортса to become independent project. I think, I can do this, because I graduated philologist faculty at local university. I know many writers/poets who speak bashkir language and I speak/translate russian, turkish. I have more than 2 years of experience of working for Wikipedia. Thank you. Lizalizaufa (talk) 21:28, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Comment

So if I'm right you are going to limit your activities to the Bashkir texts? If that's the case, once the Bashkir subdomain is created, you either need to hold a new vote for permanent adminship or be deflagged. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 08:35, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I want to work only in Bashkir articles. After the creation of the Bashkir subdomain, I will be nominated by the administrator. I know Bashkir writers who agree to publish their works in free access. I intend to recruit new authors and explain to them about the need for permission from the OTRS. I will put in order the Bashkir Wikisource.Lizalizaufa (talk) 17:02, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Comment/2

Just to make sure that you understand what is the role of a sysop, can you tell me one or two things that you need to do on Bashkir texts that require sysop privilegies? --Candalua (talk) 09:00, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Candalua! Specially took for clarity this page Гүзәл Ситдиҡова тәржемәләре See: 1. No author's license (OTRS); 2. These texts are translations of works by other authors. It is necessary to authorize these authors or indicate a reference to "literary heritage". 3. Each work should occupy a separate page (Indicate previous and subsequent works).   There are a lot of such pages. Here are some: -  Тилебаш! (Пушкин/Ситдиҡова) There are texts of the original (Russian) and translation (Bashkir). There is no reference to the original and the printed translation. And according to Wikisource rules, only works published somewhere are entitled to be placed. - Башҡортостан(шиғыр). Гөлфиә Юнысова   The link is invalid and there is no OTRS. And so on... I agree to your re-voting conditions. Thank you! Waiting for an answer.Lizalizaufa (talk) 17:48, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Lizalizaufa: ok, but for these things you don't necessarily need to be a sysop, you can just edit as an user... Do you need to delete pages? Do you need to edit protected pages? Do you need to block users or protect pages? If the answer to all these questions is "no", then I'm afraid you may have misunderstood the role of the syop. --Candalua (talk) 21:42, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Candalua! In Wikisource (language: ba) [[1]] there are no specialists who could check the texts on the right (plagiarism, etc.), delete incorrectly compiled pages, send messages to authors about the need for OTRS, protect pages from incorrect patches, even block those users who violate the Wikisource rules. Therefore, I wanted to take these responsibilities on myself. Moreover, I intend to coordinate this activity with the Union of Writers of the Republic of Bashkortostan, so that writers know who to contact, in case of questions on the [[2]]. The first attempts in the struggle for the "purity" of the Wikisource, intends to coordinate with the more experienced "sysop". You can give a probationary period or assign some duties to the appointment. I fully understand that I take on a great responsibility. I hope you will not mind promoting the development of our Wikisource (:ba)? Lizalizaufa (talk) 06:52, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a huge backlog of pages requiring admin handling? --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 08:41, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Ooswesthoesbes! Thanks for the answer! In the language [3] section "B" - "Башҡортса" (:ba) you will find a list of all the pages: for today-80 internal categories, 2443 pages of text. I think there are a lot of cleaning jobs. And how many pages are required to have at least one administrator? Lizalizaufa (talk) 19:55, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There is no page requirement. The requirements are that you are active, have a clear reason why you need the admin tools, understand the admin tools, and are a trusted member of the community. The second requirement is still not entirely clear. Can you give us clear examples of what needs to be done? --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 08:43, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the nomination! 😊 I haven't been active here for too long, so I wasn't even thinking of trying to become an admin here yet, but since you seem to think it's a good idea, I'll accept the nomination.
Super short summary: I've been an admin in the Norwegian Bokmål Wikipedia since 2005, so I know my way around the tools. I started becoming more active in Wikisource last year – mostly in the Norwegian Wikisource, but it depends on the language of the book(s) I'm focusing on.
And finally, I won't take it personally at all if anyone opposes because of short activity or whatnot, so don't feel shy. 😉 Jon Harald Søby (talk) 20:03, 18 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Requests for bureaucrat rights

edit

Following the recent vote, I proposed to initialize subdomains with raw copies of the wikisource database. This method is proposed in order to keep page histories. (see here for details). This method will involve admins deleting pages that are not in their proper subdomain. Although the method is designed to minimize the number of deletions, it will still require some work, and I guess it will be easier if we can nominate a few more sysops for that. I request bureaucrat rights in order to be able to create these new sysops. (at the moment, the only bureaucrat here is Eclecticology, and his last edit was more than 5 weeks ago.) 1. Support. It is nessesary, and Ec seems to have left the project. I trust ThomasV will do a good job. --Christian S 16:46, 13 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Support. Although, I'm not sure Ec's left the project (he hasn't contributed over at Wiktionary for quite some time, either), but it is essential that we have a bureaucrat actively on the project right now. Zhaladshar 16:51, 13 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

-jkb- (talk contribs blocks protects deletions moves rights)

-jkb- is well known to the community as a long-term admin and former bureaucrat here (he resigned in 2012 due to inactivity). He is quite active now, taking much care about the project. After we have lost our coleague-bureaucrat, we have only two bureaucrats. I think it would be good to have more than the standard minimum. Particularly since sudden bureaucrat action requirements happen here sometimes and everybody (even our current bureaucrats) should have the opportunity to be inactive or not to take a decision that they do not feel comfortable with. I hope -jkb- will accept my nomination. Ankry (talk) 19:03, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I thank you you Ankry for your trust and your nomination. Yep, I would gladly help the project as bureaucrat, since I am an admin and partly a bureaucrat here since 2005, as far as I remember. In the last years I was quite active and I would like to be it in the future as well, with the same focus, but a bit more concerning the huge amount of probably copyvios here. It is true, that the role of the bureaucrats, after we finished the big SUL renaming, decreased a bit, but anyway I thing as well that one more bureacrat would be good for this project. As I know the other two bureaucrats - Zyephyrus and Ooswesthoesbes - from here and from other projects very good I guess we could cooperate in full harmony. Thus I accept Ankrys nomination - thank you for it again. -jkb- (talk) 20:55, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Requests for other rights

Doug (talk contribs blocks protects deletions moves rights)

I am an an admin and transwiki-importer on this project as well as a bot operator. I am also an admin and bot operator on en.ws, mw.org, and en.wp and a bureaucrat, admin, and bot operator on la.ws. I have experience using import-upload on private mw wikis. I have previously requested importer (import-upload) rights on the Scriptorium for this wiki, but the request was archived after only a few comments (see archives, here). A renewed request received no comments after nearly two months, so on the suggestion of Ooswesthoesbes, I'm starting a thread here.

To summarize the need, there is a bug, which causes transwiki import to the multilingual wikisource to fail (except from sv.wssa.ws last I checked). The only way (that is consistent with the licenses) to replicate templates, etc. on mul.ws is to use the more powerful importupload right. importupload can only be granted by a steward (and steward rights also include the right). We have one importer, who happens to also be a steward (he has the importupload privilege independently for this project), Jusjih. As I am working on multilingual works and works that are here due to subdomain copyright policies, I want to be able to import templates easily without requesting this of Jusjih every time. I have basically stopped work on a couple of projects due to the lack of templates. As an active user, I would gladly do this for others as required.--Doug.(talk contribs) 12:33, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am a trusted user on Commons, and an editor on pl-wiki and pl-wikisource. As Wikimedia user I have about 40.000 edits (to sum up on all wikis, see: [6]) and more than 33.000 on Wikia projects). I am familiar with the bots that I use often on my Polish Wikia sites -> Ogród Petenery as Electron Bot user and on Polish PrePedia -> [7]. User:-jkb--User:Angr-User:Ankry-User:Jusjih-User:Satdeep Gill-User:Tpt-User:Zyephyrus

Dear people, I would like to request import (upload) rights. I have been asked to import several pages from incubator. I am aware that we already have several users with import access, but I think it would be useful for the future, as I'm relatively active here and I am also an administrator on the incubator. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 14:57, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Support As far as I can see we have just two importers here (you surely mean import upload don't you); with this right should be handled very carefully, but I know Ooswesthoesbes as a very trusty user and will supposrt this; but however, we can support this request, then it will be necessary to ask the stewards for granting it. -jkb- (talk) 15:26, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Support This right is very useful for massive import or while importing from/to non-standard namespaces (like Page/Index/Author). If we can expect more imports from incubator in future, maybe it is also worth to add incubator: to wgImportSources configuration variable for this wiki? (To allow all admins standard import from incubator.) I found, that the configuration change procedure is much slower than asking for rights, however. Ankry (talk) 19:14, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Ankry: Indeed, that would be a possibility. However, uploading an xml file is probably easier, as all the pages can be imported at once. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 20:04, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also an administrator at Incubator, but it's not appropriate for me to !vote here, as I'm not very active here. I'd point out, though, that because of the prefixes we use at Incubator, transwiki import is likely not to be feasible for large import tasks. Even if you could use the mechanism of transwiki import on a bulk scale for that purpose, you'd then have to rename all the pages to strip out the prefixes. So unless you also have a bot to do that, file import is a more efficient approach for this. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:22, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Note: It probably is a good idea to add Incubator to the transwiki import list here. It's just not the right tool to use for large tasks. StevenJ81 (talk) 19:01, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It sure can be added. I think it is not necessary as long as we've got active importers. Importing pages is still relatively rare. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 12:32, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • the problem is as follows (see also the talk page here):
    • there are some accounts that are editing very frequently - sometimes some more hundreds edits a day; if I have a look here so I cannot follow the vandalism edits, because the recent changes are full of the edits of our very diligent users;
    • on the other hand we have different experience with bots here, some ones had to be blocked in the past;
    • however if the problem could be solved by granting a bot flag, it could be a good sollution
I would support this request if Satdeep Gill (the owner of the bot) clearly states which edits his bot will do (up to now, as far as I have seen, it was somethins like categorizing punjabi / guajarati etc. pages

The Translate extension has been enabled here now, but for it to be used we need some translation administrators that can mark pages for translation. I have many years of experience with it on Meta and on Wikimedia Norge's wiki (under my work account), so I feel bold enough to nominate myself for this.

For those who don't know, a translation administrator can do the technical marking of pages for translation, so that normal users can actually translate them. Despite the name "translation administrator", one does not have to be an administrator to do this. If we were to discuss criteria for who can be one, I suggest simply (a) users who have experience with this from other wikis or (b) established users (maybe 100+ edits or so?) who are willing to learn how to use it. It's not very hard, and there is an easy tutorial available here. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 12:27, 13 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I had sysop status because I'm sysop on all eo-projects and we have no eo.wikisource. That enables me e.g. to protect eo-project pages. Then, thanks to let me sysop status. Arno Lagrange  08:39, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Innv (last edit 2010-02-20)

edit
  • He hasn't edited here since February, and may very well soon qualify for desysopping on that basis alone. The standards for a global sysop should indeed be higher when a person may be taking action in projects where no-one will see what they are doing. There is no evidence of misbehaviour on his part in this project, so when someone without any edit history here arrives for the sole purpose of taking punitive action against another individual I suspect a personal agenda. I suggest no immediate action other than to keep a close watch on Innv's future edits, if any. In due course, desysopping for inactivity may very well be the appropriate and far less controverial way to go. Eclecticology 01:02, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have no personal agenda. I too am a global sysop and an admin on various other projects. My request here is simply in the interest of the project. Innv has made it clear (diffs provided on the meta DRfA) that his gaining syop on a multitude of projects was a social experiment to see how many flags a banned sockpuppet can gain. As such, I felt it was in the best interest of this community to ask for Innv's sysop rights to be removed. Please, assume good faith. Thanks, Tiptoety talk 04:59, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • After I have made a very extensive experience with one special user I strongly oppose the point of view that the misbehaviour of the user on other projects or elsewhere outside has no impact on his status in another project (because "there is no evidence of misbehaviour on his part in this project"). All WM projects are one social project with a special goal, and we should consider us to be a team. If somebody makes here experiments like that one which is discussed so it can destroy the trust to each other and the whole work here. A desysop for it is fully OK. -jkb- 08:05, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Desyop as nom due to inactivity. I'm nominating all of the long inactive accounts pro forma. LadyInGrey has not edited or logged in over 16 months on this wiki. They are active on es.ws, ca.ws, and commons. Can ask for the tools back if they come back.--Doug.(talk contribs) 04:05, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Change to neutral - I have no particular interest in desysopping and as stated did this as a formality due to inactivity. I won't withdraw the proposal as there are other votes to desysop and a very long period of no log actions but I have no particular opposition to LadyInGrey remaining an admin either.--Doug.(talk contribs) 06:11, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No he editado pero tampoco he desaparecido. Me gustaría seguir siendo admin ya que nunca se sabe cuando aparecen los vándalos. • Desyop as nom due to inactivity and lack of current need for an adminbot. I'm nominating all of the long inactive accounts pro forma. In addition, this one was discussed at Wikisource:Scriptorium/Archives/Jan_2011_-_Dec_2011#Stale_bots_and_sysops last October. ThomasBot has not edited on any wiki since last August and has not edited here in 17 months (no log actions in 14 months). The primary reason for being a sysop appears to be related to deleting pages that had been exported to a subdomain - this is the only wiki on which ThomasBot is an adminbot. This could easily be done by any competent bot handler when needed and ThomasBot isn't around to do it any way. If ThomasV comes back with his bot, it's a simple click for any crat to give it the flag. Additionally, although I expect ThomasV has high standards of security, I generally consider an inactive admin bot to be high risk.--Doug.(talk contribs) 04:05, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Desyop as nom due to inactivity as pointed out by VIGNERON above. I'm nominating all of the long inactive accounts pro forma. ThomasV announced his (hopefully temporary) retirement last year and his last edit on any wikimedia project was to confirm on this project that he asked Phe to take over for him as part of his vote of support for Phe's promotion to admin. I would of course support his immediate reinstatement if he came back but I see little chance that he's going to just drop by and take an admin action or even be available if we thought we needed him. He hasn't logged an action in over a year [10].--Doug.(talk contribs) 10:46, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • I don't mind, haven't been active here for some time. Over time I sometimes edited protected pages with info on languages, including the main page. But I'm happy to have the people who are still active here keep doing those occasional updates. I have many good memories from over the course of years, and I'm glad that Wikisource is doing so well in its many language subdomains, as well as in the open environment here, which allows many smaller languages to start building libraries without hindrance. • Decrat as nom due to inactivity. I'm nominating all of the long inactive accounts pro forma. Nothing against -jkb- and I know that they are active on other projects, but they have never logged a crat action on this project according to pathoschild's tool. They have logged a fair number of admin actions but nothing in over a year but I am intentionally raising the crat inactivity separately (and I'm doing so here because there doesn't appear to have ever been a promotion/demotion discussion on the crat page). Even if the user is lurking and wants to continue to be an admin (like LadyInGrey apparently was), then I still support removing crat privileges. I can't see a discussion of granting these privileges but they were granted after the user became inactiveafter the last admin log action with the justification "to reflect practical need" [12] and the user's last edit was 26 May 2011.--Doug.(talk contribs) 11:08, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
note there was some sort of discussion at User_talk:-jkb-#Bureaucrat but it was basically the other crats discussing, no other members of the community.--Doug.(talk contribs) 17:13, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
